A Nice Cold 20
We here in North Carolina seem to have skipped right past winter and gone into spring. There is a good side to this. Friday was sunny and in the mid 70's. There is also a bad side however. This morning as Mike, Ben, Sam, Paul, Greg, Bryan and I set out on our run, the thermometer was hovering right around 16 degrees. We did not let this stop us though. We set out to do 20 and at least some of us finished it.
After about 4 miles or so Jim, Sam, Greg, Bryan and I were distracted by a trail off to the left of where we were supposed to be going. We let Mike and Ben keep running ahead as we darted off on to the new trail that none of us had ventured on before. After about 11 miles we ended up back at the car. This is where Sam and Greg left us and Jim, Bryan and I kept running. Jim and Bryan ended up doing 16 miles and I finished out the last bit by myself to get in 20. I am sure Mike and Ben got in 20 as well but I will have to wait until tuesday to find out. I passed Mike as I was approaching the parking area and he tried to persuade me into doing a little more on the single track with him. I politely declined and ran the last couple of minutes back to the car.
All in all it was a very good run. I got my 20 miles in, which is what I wanted to do, and we had a little fun doing it. Maybe next time I do a 20 mile run mother nature will give me some warmer weather.
